Dr. Michael Garrett received his M.D. from Indiana University in 1997 and completed his Family Medicine Residency at Ball Hospital in Muncie, Indiana in 2000. After years of full-time ER work, he founded Direct MD Austin in 2014. He is board certified in Family Medicine and completed functional medicine training with the Kresser Institute’s Adapt Practitioner program in November 2021. Passionate about human health, Dr. Garrett is committed to continuous learning and applying new insights to optimize health outcomes for his clients.

Residing in Austin with his wife Jill, their two children Max and Kate, and various animals, Dr. Garrett enjoys great literature (with a fondness for Victor Hugo and Ayn Rand), music, and art. He has a special interest in Maria Montessori’s work, snorkeling, scuba diving, and is an enthusiast of saltwater aquariums, particularly clownfish. He is also a founding member of the Direct Primary Care Alliance.

Samantha Reckson joined Direct MD Austin in the fall of 2024, having previously been a student of Dr. Garrett during her training. She is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. With a Master of Science in Nursing from Texas State University (2019) and the University of Texas in Austin (RN-MSN in Pediatric Nursing, 2012), as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia, Samantha brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role.

She is passionate about providing holistic, integrated care with a focus on disease prevention and overall well-being. Samantha has training in functional medicine and bioidentical hormone replacement and emphasizes nutritional support, movement, and natural remedies. Her interests include easing transitions between young adulthood and menopause/andropause, Physiologic Hormone Restoration, Therapeutic Carbohydrate Restriction, and women’s sexual health. In her free time, she enjoys dance, reading, and exploring arts and cultural events,

Born and raised in South Texas, Diana graduated as a Medical Assistant in 2015 and brings over 10 years of experience to Direct MD Austin. She is passionate about providing exceptional patient care with a compassionate approach, helping ensure every patient feels welcomed, comfortable, and supported throughout their healthcare journey.

As both a Medical Assistant and Office Manager, Diana plays an important role in the day-to-day operations of the practice. She works closely with patients and providers to help create the personalized experience that is central to concierge medicine. Known for her caring nature, strong work ethic, and attention to detail, Diana takes pride in building meaningful relationships with patients and helping them feel confident in their care.

Outside of the office, Diana enjoys music, photography, spending time with loved ones, and exploring Austin’s local food scene. She shares her life with her fiancé, Anthony, and their three toy poodles, Molly, Daisy, and Frankie, who keep life fun and full of personality

Susie joined Direct MD Austin in the fall of 2023, bringing over 20 years of experience in medical management. She obtained her Nursing Degree in 2007 in Tampa, Florida, and has extensive experience in medical settings and high-quality patient management. In her role, she assists in daily operations, manages patient relations, and oversees member enrollments. Passionate about her work, Susie is committed to providing high-quality care to our members. In her downtime, she enjoys reading, exploring new places, and engaging with art and music. Her favorite place is the beach.
